THEORETICAL COMPONENT

 

1. Metamorphism and metamorphic process
2. Types of metamorphism;
3. Metamorphic agents;
4. Metamorphic reactions: mineralogical reactions; balance and stability; textural evolution; PTt paths
5. Classificationof metamorphic rocks
6. Metamorphic conditions: index minerals; isograde and metamorphic facies.
7. Metamorphic evolution of the main compositional series

 

PRACTICAL COMPONENT

1. Metamorphic textures; Structural and textural description of metamorphic rocks;
2. Macro and microscopic study of metamorphic rocks: characterization of mineral paragenesis and textures; petrogenetic interpretation; Exemplification with variscan metamorphic rocks.
3. A field day in a metamorphic context- a field visit to Serra da Freita
