. to acquire knowledge and skills that allow understanding current developments in Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics.
. to know the theoretical basis of nuclear and particle physics models.
. to know crucial experimental results in Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics.
. to develop the capability of problem solving
The aim of the course is to give a unified description of nuclear and particle physics. After completing this course the students must:
- be able to make calculations on the basis of the liquid drop model and of the Shell model.
- be able to explain and do simple calculations in problems of radioactive decay and of nuclear fission and fusion processes.
- be able to compute amplitudes from Feynman diagrams at tree level.
- be able to calculate cross sections and decay rates.
- have knowledge of Lie algebras.
- be able to calculate hadronic functions, masses and magnetic moments of hadrons, based on the quark static model.
- know the fundamentals and the state of art of the standard model.
Quantum Mechanics; all de units of Mathematics; basic concepts in Relativity.
