Objectives
To encourage students' autonomous work, as well as promoting the critical thinking and the familiarity with the scientific research.
Learning outcomes and competences
Ability to synthesize and understand both the main aspects and the propelling ideas supporting the results, instead of spending all the effort in the mastering of every technical detail.
Ability to structure of either a well guided oral presentation or an essay reporting on a research work in mathematics.

Program
Presentation, critical analysis and discussion of scientific works. Whenever possible, the topics covered will be suggested by the students' supervisors. This way, the syllabus will be better linked to the already started student's dissertations. The apposite list of references will be the most adequate to each student's mathematical interests.

The students will be evaluated for their seminars according to their merit on the following items:
- mathematical quality of the talks;
- excellence of the seminars;
- endeavor to promote the scientific discussion;
- innovation.
