Objectives

The students are expected to develop a research project in a subject framed within the field of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology supervised by researchers of Mathematics or Computer Science and Biology or Biochemistry.

Learning outcomes and competences

The Project Students of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, specialization course, should be able to:

  1. understand the problem proposed in the light of current knowledge, through the collection and critical analysis of the bibliography;

  2. plan methodologies in order to answer the technical and scientific questions posed, that may teflect the skills previously acquired in other curricular disciplines of the specialized course in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology;

  3. increase their knowledge in matters that are instrumental in the scope of the project;

  4. present and discuss their findings to a specialized audience;

  5. elaborate a written report in the form of a scientific paper that shpuld include a synopsis of the state-of-the-art, the results obtained through a methodology suitable to the questions posed, the critical analysis of results, conclusions and a bibliographical list documenting the work carried out and showing its scientific relevance.

Program

The research topics of this UC are selected from a portfolio of proposals collected from researchers who develop scientific work in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology, and subsequently validated by the Scientific Commission of the specialization course in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

The proposals should have an interdisciplinary profile by integrating a component markedly in the areas of biology / biochemistry and another in the areas of mathematics / science of computers.
