Objectives

Enable to collect, geo-reference, analyze and rank diverse field data (objective data - lithological, structural; interpreted data - relative chronology, interpretative profiles) in different geological settings.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be able to:
- Lithological and structural descriptions;
- Elaboration of geological cross sections;
- Make representative sampling, according to the scale and purpose of the study;
- Know how to interpret and present field data

Working method

Presencial

Program

Accomplishment of 7 days of field work in different geological settings, , including:

- Stratigraphic analysis, paleontological and sedimentological;

- Lithologic and tectonic-metamorphic analysis;

- Evaluation of the geological context of resources, metallic and non-metallic.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Tutorial fieldwork and group work.

Each working group is accompanied by the teacher during a part of the lesson, during which the group presents interpretations and questions regarding the field work performed autonomously and the teacher indicates areas and aspects that must be observed and interpret, encouraging the active participation of all members of the group.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Total: 100,00

Calculation formula of final grade

Performance in field work + field notebook: 40 %;

Final Report (individual), including data files : 40%;
