Objectives

This module will introduce basic concepts of interactive systems design and development, including not only theoretical concepts (usability, user centred design) but also practical ones (low fidelity prototyping via graphical user interface implementation).

Learning outcomes and competences

- Ability to study and model users and scenarios

- Ability to design, develop and evaluate low and medium-fidelity prototypes

Working method

Presencial

Program

Human Computer Interaction: introduction, history.

The human processor model: perception, attention, memory.

Fundamental concepts about the design process

Mental models.

Usability engineering: problem definition, development cycle, evaluation, prototyping.

Mandatory literature

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theory Lectures (T): Scientific content presentation. Discussion of illustrative examples.

Practical Lectures (P): Demonstration of the contents taught in the theory lectures. Problem solving. Questions and coursework support.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

designation Weight (%)
Exame 50,00
Trabalho escrito 25,00
Trabalho prático ou de projeto 25,00
Total: 100,00

Eligibility for exams

Must submit final report and demo presentation and do the final exam.
-project report (5 points)
-prototype development and presentation (5 points)
-final exam (10 points)

Calculation formula of final grade

Final grade based on 3 components:
-project report (5 points)
-prototype development and presentation (5 points)
-final exam (10 points)
Final grade is obtained by the sum of the 3 components
