Objectives
It is expected that students acquire general knowledge about the variety of existing Geological Resources and on their genesis and geo-economic aspects. It is expected that students acquire skills that make them able to join the technical staff of companies in the mining area, or start research in the area of geological resources.
Learning outcomes and competences
The program was developed according with the generalist nature that the course has (in the Resource field it is the only UC of the Course). Thus it is intended that the student stay with a view of all resources, without neglecting basic and essential aspects of the genesis of each type of geologic feature, as well as knowledge of paradigmatic examples of global deposits.

Program
Basic aspects of Geological Resources. Main mineralogical, economic and the genesis of the following types of mineral deposits: MAGMATIC deposits of BASIC chemism, Deposits in CARBONATITES and IGNEOUS ALKALINE ROCKS, VMS and SEDEX deposits, MVT deposits, non sulphide zinc deposits, LATERITES, SUPERGENIC deposits, SEDIMENTARY deposits, PLACERS e PALEOPLACERS, SKARNS, Vein-Greisen-Aplopegmatite deposits, BIF deposits, IRONSTONES deposits, PORPHYRY deposits, IOCG deposits. Energy resources. Minerals and industrial rocks. Ornamental Stones and gems. Environmental aspects during and after mining. Some of the world's deposits and disctricts of each of the deposits types.
Mandatory literature
Ridley, J.; Ore Deposit Geology , Cambridge University Press, 2013. ISBN: 9781107022225
Arndt, N., Ganino, C.,; Metals and Society. An introduction to economic geology, Springer, 2012. ISBN: 978-3-642-22995-4.
Teaching methods and learning activities
In class the teacher exposes the academic contents orally and showing graphic projections, tables and photos related to the themes. It also shows objects from day to day, relating them to the ores of the elements from which they are are extracted.
In practical classes students study in hand sample and reflection and trnsmission microscopes the most important mineral resources. Field classes in mining areas complement the teaching of giving them a turn industrial component to the economic reality.

Calculation formula of final grade
Examination (0-20).
The examination has a theoretical component (70%) and a pratical one (30%). The examination is divided in 4 parts one for each professor.
The final classification is the sum of the modules of which the weight of each module is directly proportional to the number of teachin hours for each teacher.
