Objectives

To teach advanced Remote Sensing techniques, complementary to already acquired knowledge in this field in previous courses

Learning outcomes and competences

 Students are expected to:
• Understand the basic principles and applications of various Remote Sensing techniques, such as orbits of remote sensing satellites, satellite altimetry, SAR interferometry, etc.
• Acquire competences in the analysis and processing of various types of remote sensing data.

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

To have attended first degree courses on Remote Sensing.

1. Satellite orbits. Types of orbits. Keplerian, perturbed and actual orbits.

2. High spatial and spectral resolution remote sensing satellites

3. Remote Sensing of vegetation

4. Radar Altimetry. Principles and applications.

5. SAR Interferometry

6. Remote Sensing of the Earth gravity field

Teaching methods and learning activities

Classes are mainly based on Power Point presentations and practical exercises using the various types of software. Some of the topics are taught in the form of Seminars presented by specialists in the field.

Eligibility for exams

Attendance of classes is compulsory. The general rules of FCUP shall apply.

Calculation formula of final grade

Assessment is made by means of an individual report, presented in the form of a paper. The topics of the reports are chosen from a list of provided topics. Assessment includes an oral presentation and discussion of the report.
The final classification is the mark obtained in the individual report with a weight of 70% given o the written report and 30% to the oral presentation and discussion.

Classification improvement

The students can use the methods predicted in the general University rules for mark improvement
