Personal Presentation

José Fonseca is a researcher at the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences. He was awarded a first degree in Physics/Applied Mathematics (Astronomy) by the University of Porto in 2007. In 2008 completed the Mathematics Triplos with distinction at the University of Cambridge (UK). In 2012 obtained a PhD by the University of Portsmouth (UK). After his graduation at the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, he worked in Ciência Viva (PT), University of the Western Cape in South Africa, University of Padua and Queen Mary University of London. He is a member of IA since 2021.
His current research interests focus in studying the large-scale structure of the Universe in the optical and radio frequencies to understand the composition, formation and evolution of the universe and test General Relativity at cosmological scales. He is member of the Square Kilometre Array Observatory Cosmology Science Working Group where he co-leads the Synergies focus group. He is also a member of SKAO’s pathfinder MeerKAT, focusing in Cosmology with HI intensity mapping. Additionally, he is a member of Euclid where he participates in the Systematics, Photometric Clustering and Theory Working groups.
