He is an Associate Professor (2004-) at the Departamento de Física e Astronomia, in the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto He was, at the Departamento de Matemática Aplicada, a Teaching Assistant (1990-1996) and an Assistant Professor (1996-2004). Mário Monteiro is also an Associate Member (Researcher) at Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP) since 1997, a R&D institution where he was a member from 1989 to 2013 and was the Director from 2006 to 2012. Since the creation in 2014 of the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Science, he is an integrated researcher in this R&D unit.
Current research interests, within the IA team on Origin and Evolution of Stars and Planets
, on the thematic lin for Stars
, focus on the study of the internal structure of solar type stars using stellar seismology. In particular convection and convective overshoot in stars in general as well as for Sun, and the seismic determination of stellar parameters for the study of stellar evolution from the pre-main sequence up to the more advanced stages of evolution.
