Rose Marie Sousa holds a PhD degree in Sciences (domain of Biology) from the University of Minho (2016). Currently, she is a researcher at the Biology Department of FCUP working on the CropProt project. She is focused on understanding the defense mechanisms that might be triggered by the application of botanical pesticides formulations in the tomato plant, using omics approaches.
Rose has performed research in the domain of Plant Protection & Animal Health, Agricultural Plant Science and toxicology. She has been working in plant biotechnology, phytochemistry and biological activity, with a strong focus on essential oils and extracts from aromatic plants with biopesticidal potential towards pests and diseases vectors (i.e. lepidopteran, root-knot nematode, mosquito, freshwater snail species). Furthermore, she performed ecotoxicological assessement of winery effluents in terrestrial and aquatic organisms and colaborated in investigations for the valorization agro-industrial byproducts originated from vine and chestnut production.
