The Master’s in Education organised by the FCUP are second cycle, professional degrees qualifying students to teach in primary and secondary schools.
These degrees provides the scientific and pedagogical skills required to teach Biology and Geology in the 3rd cycle of primary and in secondary education. It harmonises the educational process with the need for teachers’ qualifications which have arisen as a result of changes in society and education and the evolution of science and technology. The degree guarantees careful instruction in both general and specific areas of knowledge and the necessary know-how for quality professional training whilst it also prepares practitioners to face the novel demands of education.
Candidates holding a graduation (or according to paragraphs b) and d) of the article 17 from Decree Law 74/2006 as written by Decree Law 65/2018) without professional training for teaching Biology and / or Geology, who have obtained in the framework of their academically formation or in other cycles of study of higher education, at least 50 credits in Biology and 50 credits in Geology, with a total of 120 credits when considering both areas together.
It is compulsory the evaluation of the oral and written mastery of Portuguese and of the essential rules of logical and critical argumentation.
Admission may also be considered to candidates who had obtained at least 75% of the credits referred above, this is, having 90 credits in the specialization areas (Biology and Geology) and 37,5 credits in which one of them, being necessary to obtain the total of credits after being accepted in the master, but before performing subscription in curricular units of science education and initiation to professional practice.
Admission will also be considered to candidates that may conclude the graduation by the end date of admission in this master and that fulfil the paragraphs above.
Will be first selected candidates with a graduation and that fulfil all requirements referred in the admission requirements section.
Ranking will be defined by the following criteria:
Graduation average. For candidates without a graduation when applying to be admitted, but in position to conclude it by the end of that period, curricular average by the time of requirement will be considered with a penalty of 10% for each curricular unit not concluded.
