Revisions of the basic concepts of aquaculture and attainment of the necessary competences for the development of a sustainable aquaculture management.
To provide knowledge on the occurrence and diversity of toxins in the natural environment, explain the common methods for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of toxins and to talk about human and environmental health risks
Most biologists contact with the problems of experimental design in a relaxed manner or not at all, refining their experiments empirically on a trial-error basis. During this course special attention will be paid to the logic underlying the whole process of experimental design, from drawing hypothesis, selection of statistical tests, planning and setup of experiments that unambiguously lead to interpretable results.
Provide students basis of aquatic animal nutrition and feeding.
The objectives of this course are.
Characterization of different freshwater ecosystems. Evaluation of water quality in all its aspects biomanipulation Eutrophication of ecosystems and their consequences on the quality of water.
Get competences for learning the techniques of assessment of water quality applying them in the future in various areas of education, research and others.
To provide knowledge on the importance of One Health, an integrated, unifying approach aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals, and ecosystems. Waterborne diseases and their significance in public health. Identification, understanding, and evaluation of waterborne diseases in the human population.
To provide knowledgement concerning etiology, symptomatology and diagnosis of the most important fish diseases.
We intend to give the students actualized knowledge about prokaryotes classification and diversity, especially about the most important groups present in the aquatic environments. Traditional, culture-dependent methods will be presented, and their limitations discussed. The available methods for studying microbial communities, including various culture-independent methods, will be presented.
The presence of viruses, particularly bacteriophages, in the aquatic environments, and methods for their study, will also be addressed.
We will also seek to arouse interest / curiosity in students to understand the role of the aquatic environment as a source and / or reservoir of resistant bacteria, and of resistance genes, to clinically relevant antibiotics, framing the theme in the, increasingly, current and important multisectoral approach One Health.
