Objectives

To render students aware of the relevance of psychosocial factors as determinants of eating habits and eating behaviour. To provide knowledge on research methods and techniques used by social scientists in the study of behaviours related to nutrition and health and disease.

Knowledge about theories, models and data collecting thecnics, described in the subject curriculum.

Concepts and theories on Social Psychology and Health Psychology shall be presented in context, within the scope of nutrition and related fields as far as possible. The course contents is organized into 3chapters: I Psychological and psychossocial determinantes of eating choices and eating behavior. The body and the representation of the body especialy in adolescence are subjects related to this chapter. II - Helth and disease throught the perspective of social cognition theories: Development of atitudes and knowledge related to heath since first years of life to adolescence. Social Cognition and Health Psychology models about aquisition of health promoting behaviors. III Psychossocial determinants of food habits since infancy to adolescence

Teaching methods and learning activities

In theoretical classes: Explanatory method, with the assistance of audiovisual media. In theoretical-practical classes: work to be undertaken in small groups, so as to explore research techniques used in psychosociology and to study subjects proposed by the teacher.

Eligibility for exams

American type examination. All students must present to the classe a pratical work (done along the semester in the classe), about the theorectical matter of the discipline.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final classification is the result of a final examination and the classification of the practical work.

Students may get up to 0,5 points of bonus if they actively participate in theoretical classes.

Examinations or Special Assignments

Practical works done in classes are mandatory, all the works proposed and for all students (including studant-workers). These works proposed in the begining of the semester are por be presented to classe.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The working students and FCNAUP outgoing students have to presente to the classe all practical works (as the others studants). These works will be discussed in classes with the professor.
Special situations will be analized individually and resolved according to decisions of Pedagogical Council.

Observations

Compulsory Language of Teaching : Portuguese.
Agreeing with the Dr GR 06/12/2017, studants aren't authorized to take images or record sound from lective activities.

In all written works studants have to include the Declaration of Honor indicated in Article 14ª-a).
