Objectives

To study Nutritional Biochemistry, Nutritional Physiology, Fluid and Electrolyte Balance and Nutritional imunology in the scope of clinical nutrition.

Program

This subject consists of four modules:
Nutritional Biochemistry
Nutritional Physiology
Fluid and electrolyte balance
Nutritional imunology

Each with the following programmes:

Nutritional Biochemistry - Lipid metabolism; plasma lipid transport; carbohydrate metabolism; protein metabolism; nitrogen balance; cachexia; integrated metabolism; glicosilation of proteins and lipids;signaling by lipid molecules; oxidants and antioxidants; hormones, neurtransmiters and apetite control; endocrine disfunctions

Fluid and electrolyte balance - Water and the human body; distribution and composition of fluids; regulation of celular volume; osmotic tension; osmotic regulation and volume regulation; potassium changes;calcium metabolism; acid-base balance.


Nutritional Physiology - Chewing and swalowing; gastric physiology; duodenal-bilio-pancreatic confluence; hepatic physiology; small bowell; motility and nutrient transport mechanisms; colon; hormonal regulation of the GI function; endocrine pancreas; thirst regulation.


Nutritional Immunology - Immune response; inflamatory response; immunity and infection; secondary immunodeficiencies; hypersensitive immune reactions; immunonutrition; nutrition therapy and surgical aggression
