Objectives

i - Promoting and consolidating knowledge regarding the last century’s art, considering the artistic practices: installation, performance, site-specific and public art, emphasizing the master pieces and authors which greatly influenced the practice and thinking of the contemporary culture.
ii - Promoting and consolidating critical assessment skills directed to the most emblematic movements occurred during the first half of the twentieth century and following decades, in the United States of America. Movements and main protagonists, master pieces and authors in economical, cultural and political context.
iii - Promoting and consolidating, whenever necessary, knowledge of Art History focusing on the sculpture practice, favoring some of the notorious case studies (master pieces and authors), particularly the aspects regarding the artifacts productions in civilization context.

Learning outcomes and competences

It is intended that students use study tools in order to valorise their potential as researchers.

Teaching methods and learning activities

i - Exhibition classes and debate sessions based on different kinds of didactic material (literature, p.points, aphorism and artist texts, among others);
ii - Report completion with additional research, based on the subject matter;
iii - Research work oriented by the Professor to be presented at the end of the semester, according to the student proposal;
iv - Progress reports.
