Objectives
With the study of geometry, we want to encourage the logical and deductive abilities of the student, building an analytic attitude and strengthening the synthetical thinking on the world of objects and and spaces.
Assuming geometry as the structure of the drawing, students should acquire knowledge that would enable them to use the projective geometry's systems of linear representation as the based for the knowledge and understanding of shapes.
Program
1. Approaches to the contribution of geometry to drawing.
2. Reflection on the concept of projection: the principles of projective geometry and its relationship with perceptions of reality.
3. Projection systems: the need, applicability, and intercommunication.
4. Presentation of the projection systems of linear perspective and axonometrie, reflecting
the different origins and applicability.
5. Theoretical concepts on the systems:
- Bases of the systems;
- Representation of the primitives of geometrical drawing;
- Representation of objects and spaces;
- Auxiliary geometrical methods;
- Theory of the reflexes, in plane mirrors;
- Theory of the shadows.
6. Practice of the two projection systems as instruments to knowledge and understanding of space and objects in space.
7. Practice of the two systems as operators of changes in objects and spaces.

Teaching methods and learning activities
The estimated hours for this semester (HTS) is organized as follows:
57% (HCS)
- Classroom lessons for presentation and explanation;
- Theoretical and practical lessons for implementation, development and operation of the exercises and for the critical analysis and results evaluation, as a process of progression towards greater autonomy, leading to implementation of a project of representation and intervention in a space used by the students.
43% (HTS)
- Development of the practice involved, from the specific proposals, and development of contents as well as reflection/discussion in groups.
Evaluation Type

Calculation formula of final grade
The calculation of the final mark in this course will be the result of the weighted sum of partial classifications on:
1st component, 60%
Continuous assessment;
2nd component, 40%
Assessment of the individual project on geometrical knowledge;
The existence of elements of assessment for the two components is mandatory.
Observations
The student's attendance is an evaluation component and it is an essentially prerequisite to enable ongoing evaluation inherent to the nature of this theoretical-practical discipline.
The evaluation will focuses on the progress revealed by the student on the development of his performances on work proposals which will be presented. The evaluation criteria consist of assessing the student's ability to integrate the acquired knowledge in practical drawing, it is therefore to explore the relationship between representation and understanding: to represent to comprehend and understand to represent. At the end of the semester the student should present an individual project which would reveals a wide range of knowledge on geometrical drawing.
The individual working capacity of the student, his organizational skills and his systematic work, are topics to evaluate.
