Objectives

1 - To promote and consolidate in multidisciplinary environment the involvements of the students in projects of production and independent creation;

2 - Ensure that the mentioned projects are properly articulated with methodologies that promote the study of phenomena related to contemporary art practices;

3 - Promoting an eclectic approach susceptible to methodological framework in the area of artistic practice;

4 - Encourage the exercise of artistic practices preferably in terms of practical experience, in the sense that only one learns to draw by drawing.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the UC Practice of Sculpture the student should have the skill and autonomy to manage an individual project since the conception to conclusion. The goal is the ability of a theoretical-artistic reflection and contextualization of the work itself in relation to the chosen site, either in the sense of a response to a particular situation or as a topic of interest in relation to the place itself found. This should help the student to find his own position in the art world.

Program

1 - The only guideline of the discipline of Practice of Sculpture given to students is the development of a proposal for a site-specific work preferably outside of the campus of the Faculty. It is intended to discover the urban space as a stage for an artistic intervention that enters into dialogue with architectural / landscape conditions in a historical, cultural and social context. The proposal can be designed for both indoor and outdoor places but must match the specific features of the place.

2 - The proposal of the student is naturally diverse and flexible. Guides to realize autonomous research, based on proposals submitted by the students. Therefore, the experiences in theoretical and / or theoretical-practical domain that structure the field of the topics of the discipline are in a certain way dependent or at least a function of each of the proposal, safeguarding approaches which the teachers consider as indispensable for understanding contemporary artistic practices.

3 - Since this is an optional subject offered to a wide range of students coming from widely varying sectors of the university, Portuguese and foreigner (Mobility Erasmus and students from the Intern Mobility of the UP), the program of Practice of Sculpture promotes an eclectic approach respect to environments of methodological framework in the area of artistic practices, safeguarding that these same practices must conform to the normative of investigating the importance of the plastic potential of different materials used in the production of artifacts.

Teaching methods and learning activities

1 – In the beginning the student present, confirming to the designated deadlines, the proposal of his individual project of work and the place of his intervention, explaining the artistic practice that he wishes to develop throughout the semester, supervised under continuous review.

2 - Monitoring / orientation of individual project preferably take place within the time set for the discipline. The teacher compete coordinating and regulating themethods that respect and better interpret the ideas inherent to each of the different projects, guiding students to literature and specific artistic experiences.

Calculation formula of final grade

Starting from the work produced and commitment during classes.
To calculate the final classification is considered the assiduity and the responsibility of the student before the tasks that require the development of their project, as well as their relationship with the projects of his colleagues, the answer to tasks more theoretical bent,compliments of deadlines and finally, the nature and competence in the production of (s) project (s).

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The assessment is continuous without prejudice of combination with other methods of evaluation, in particular of two moments of mid-term evaluation and a final evaluation moment (with dates defined according to the schedule of College). The two interim evaluations are of an informative nature and the final evaluation is binding quantitative, and all of them.

With the frequency of UC in the following year.

Observations

The attendant to students will be to Thursday from 18.00h to 20.00h, in the flag of sculpture (classroom), or in other places there are timely, according with the spaces in which the jobs are expected to develop and under prior combination between the teacher and the student(a).

Given the diversity of possible proposals expected of work on the part of students, the bibliography, will be provided to each student, during the course of classes, so as to respond to the specific needs of support for the development of individual works of each student. Part of the books and documents mentioned and the use are scanned and can be consulted in the Sigarra.
