PhD in Art Education

Acronym: DEA
Description: The PhD in Arts Education (pdEA) is a joint doctorate awarded by the Universities of Porto and Lisbon through their Fine Arts Faculties, the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences (University of Porto) and the Institute of Education (University of Lisbon). This programme is inscribed within the epistemological and ontological elds of Arts Education.

Arts Education I

Research Methodology and Practice I

The course aims to provide doctoral students a set of tools and skills that enable them to investigate structural and produce knowledge in the context of issues related to the arts and arts education.

Seminary I

SEM1 - ECTS In Seminar I is expected that the PhD group of students follow the themes proposed for dialogue and participate in the questioning of the approaches presented throughout the sessions and readings.

Under the theme "tensions and contradictions of contemporaneity in arts education", the Seminar seeks above all to perform circular discussions regarding the injunctions produced by contemporary society.
To that end, the Seminar aims to create an open space of critical analysis about the ways of thinking and view education in relation to art, assuming the crisis of contemporary society for a critical, citizen and plural arts education.

Scientific Writing Seminar

SEC1 - ECTS
The aim of the UC of Scientific Writing Seminar is to work on writing skills that allow students to face the writing of the thesis, but also the publication of papers or book chapters, from their research projects. Thus, students should acquire the following competencies:

- Search international databases of magazines, newspapers and publishers that publish in the thematic fields that frame the project of each student;

- Understand the rules of publication, referencing and editing appropriate to the different research platforms surveyed;

- Structure an article or chapter from the research project.
