Programme



The PDA, Doctoral Program in Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture - University of Porto, has its origin in 2007 when, on the initiative of a group of teachers who felt the need to deepen the advanced training in Architecture, is presented to the Scientific Council of FAUP a proposal for the creation and structuring of a new plan of 3rd cycle studies. In the summer of 2008, the study plan and the was approved by the General Direction of Higher Education by providing continuity to the values and the teaching experience of teaching in FAUP.

The Doctoral Program in Architecture is a cycle of studies accredited by the Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3S).


Structure

1 – The Doctoral Program corresponds to 180 credits and have a minimum duration of three years curriculum.

2 – The Doctoral Program consists of:

a) A Doctoral program, not conference of degree, consisting of curricular units compulsory and optional, to which correspond 60 credit units ECTS, to be completed in the 1st and 2ns semesters of the 1st year of the Program;

b) The achievement, during the 2nd and 3rd years of the Program, of complementary activities of study and research, comprising in total a minimum of 10 ECTS, per year;

c) The presentation and defense, at the beginning of the 3rd year of the Program and in the scope of the study options in which the student is registered, of a progress report subject to General Regulation of the 3rd Cycles of Studies of University of Porto (11 May 2015);

d) The preparation of a original thesis, specially prepared for this purpose, with the exception of the situations provided in paragraph 2, article 19, in conjunction with the favorable opinion of the advisor, at the end of the 3rd year of the Program, carried out the 180 credit units ECTS.


Objectives

Doctoral Program in Architecture has as objective(s) the award of the degree of Doctor who demonstrate:

a) Ability to understand systematic in the field of Architecture;

b) Competencies, skills and methods of research associated with the field of Architecture;

c) The ability to design, plan, adapt and perform a significant research, regarding the requirements of quality standards and academic integrity;

d) To develop a significant amount of work of original research that has contributed to the expansion of the knowledge, part of which has granted national or international dissemination;

e) To be able to critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize new and complexes ideas;

f) To be able to communicate with their peers, the academic community and the society about the area in which they are specialized;

g) To be capable of, in a knowledge-based society, promote, in academic or professional context, technological, social or cultural progresses.
