Objectives

The UC Research Seminar 2 has as its main objective, in articulation and continuity with the UC Research Seminar 1, to promote and stimulate or development of research methodologies in the field of architecture. It seeks, on the other hand, to promote and stimulate the problematization and discussion around questions and specific problems of each option of studies, training students for critical analysis and reflection, and subsequent preparation of the thesis project.

Learning outcomes and competences

The specific syllabus of each of the Study Options will allow students to acquire and develop specific skills, in terms of the processes and methodological approaches of their investigation. they will also allow students to have contact with different dimensions, processes and research methodologies, based on the crossing of experiences and the different points of view presented. The programmatic contents presented and the set of related themes and problems, will be the excuse to raise questions, share experiences and promote discussion and critical reflection, which are expected to help the structuring of personal investigation processes.

Program

The syllabus contents of the Research Seminars of the different Study Options seek to instigate and enable the discussion around diverse theoretical and methodological themes and approaches, in some cases providing for the presence of guests lecturers; the syllabus contents give rise to the development of an expanded look at architecture and urbanism, but simultaneously focused on aspects of a more specific nature.
The different study options syllabus content will be transmitted in order to promote the recognition and exploration of different research and analysis techniques, promoting a detailed, critical and rigorous exposure of the topics under analysis.

Comments from the literature

The bibliography is specific to each of the Study Options and will therefore be provided by the respective teachers.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching / learning methods are based on the complementarity between the exposition and the debate of contents around examples and processes of analysis and critical reflection, which should be the basic material for the elaboration of individual work; this work should, simultaneously, have as a reference point the research carried out by the student within the scope of the Thesis Project Seminar, as well as with the themes and problems that the student seeks to address in his doctoral thesis.
