Objectives

Acknowledge and understand the main concepts underlying the planning and design of the outdoor space across scales, currently adopted by the discipline of Landscape Architecture.

Special attention is given to interventions supported by plans, design projects and implementation works that observe systemic, holistic and inclusive approaches.

It is also intended  to debate contemporary issues of design and sustainability of urban space as well as project critique.

Learning outcomes and competences

Acquire information and critical thinking about realities, problems and dynamics of the outdoor space, landscape and the urban ecosystem, that may contribute to the enrichment of the architectural practice.

Working method

Presencial

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

_

Program

a) Fundamentals of project in outside space and Analysis and Interpretation of Landscape:

b) Terrain Modeling (Contours, landfill excavation, hypsometry, Slopes, Ridges and watercourses, Solar Aspect)

c) Vegetation - functions and design

d) Water in outside space and SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems)

e) Ecosystem Services (value of the ecosystems)

f) Developing concept plans with vegetation

g) Contemporary Issues of Landscape Architecture

h) Evaluation

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lectures and supervision of student work (individual work).

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Assessment Components

designation Weight (%)
Trabalho escrito 100,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

designation Time (hours)
Frequência das aulas 80,00
Trabalho de investigação 20,00
Total: 100,00

Eligibility for exams

A grade average of 10 out of 20  (concept plan + practical exercise + test), and a class attendance of 75%.

The minimum grade in an indivuidual evaluation is 8 and its possible for only one exercise.

Calculation formula of final grade

Individual Work  (studio-conceptplan 20% + practical exercise 30%) = 50% of Final Grade

Test  = 50% of Final Grade

Final grade is the weighted average of the garde obtained in each work affected by the presential (in class) evaluation.
