Objectives

The purposes of this curricular unit are:

- To adjust contemporary thinking to the questions raised by sport sciences.
- To face sport in a multivariable perspective.
- To understand the major importance of aesthetics and ethics to the understanding of sports.
- To think about sport in the context of corporality.

Learning outcomes and competences

It is intended that at the end of the semester the students have acquired skills in the development of: i) critical and sensitive thinking, ii) interest in integrative visions of problems and iii) interdisciplinary approaches.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical classes: the expository method prevails, although there is an effort to place the student in the center of the teaching process, promoting interaction and developing the need for research and critical reflection on the topics discussed.

Practical classes: reflection and discussion of issues covered in class through  texts, pictures and movies, presentation of group work, promoting autonomy, responsibility and critical thinking.

Eligibility for exams

It is necessary attendance to pratical classes (75%).

Calculation formula of final grade

Theoretical component: 60%. Final exam.

Practical component: 40 %. Students must accomplish two practical works during the semester within continuous assessment. Attendance of 75% of classes.

Final result: 9,5 values equal or above to succeed the Curricular Unit.
