Objectives

- To know performance sport and the specific sociologic context of swimming
- To know the actual state of the art in the field of the determinant factors of swimming performance
- To apply the knowledge previously acquired relative to the nature, processes of development and control of the different factors of performance in swimming, aiming high level performances in competition
- To develop practical competencies for the intervention at the levels of planning, direction, control and evaluation of swimming training, and competitive direction of swimmers and swimming teams.

Program

Conduction of the training process in regime of Sport Training Centre:
The discipline develops in regime of “learning in the task” in a process called Sport Training Centre, being the student’s activities tutored by a properly habilitated top level swimming coach and supervised by the university professors responsible for the discipline. To allow this educational profile, the students are allocated to a technical team of a swimming club, progressively facing the tasks and the necessary knowledge and competencies to reach success in this specific professional exercise. Students are also oriented to recognise the complementary research needs for a more complete foundation of the training process. Weekly, the students of the different Swimming Sport Training Centres get together with the professor responsible. In these sessions particular and pertinent topics are developed by invited coaches and personalities, as well as by the professors themselves. Details of the professional exercise sessions are deeply discussed, and training and competition performance of teams, coaches swimmers, other agents, and students, are discussed.
