MELE project aims to create an online interactive space with open access content to promote among both national and international public the knowledge of the literary works by Pedro de Barcelos (PdeB, C.1287-1354), son of king Dinisof Portugal. It also intends to demonstrate that his writing (troubadour poetry, chronicle, genealogies) has preserveda deeply rooted historical and cultural memory that bears on the construction national and regional identities of the Portuguese as an imagined community. The works of PdeB stand out due to their historical and political significance.
They reveal an idiosyncratic concept of power aligned with an ample worldview that congregates territories and peoples. MELE will complement the scope of funded troubadour-related GEOARPAD project (INTERREG VA Espanha Portugal 2014-2020) and focus on PdeB?s historiographic writing, specifically Livro de Linhagens (LL). The 1st critical edition of LL (1980) is out of print. Its author, José Mattoso (one of MELE's external experts) considers
that, in view of the advances in the knowledge of LL?s manuscript tradition and of philological method itself, the edition should not be republished. MELE's team will elaborate and make available a new edition.
The team will also identify, study and map both the material and immaterial patrimony of northern Portugal which relates to LL or to its author, so as to make apparent the coherence of contemporary space (natural, archaeological, ethnographical) in light of the written medieval memory at our disposal. By providing new critical information and appealing trustworthy digest contents about LL to the academic community, the local institutions, the business world and the general public alike, MELE's research will stimulate scientific studies and enlarge the northern region's symbolic capital.
The most noticeable achievements of MELE will be the database, the app and the new edition of LL (by prestigious Academia das Ciências de Lisboa and high impact online collection Les Livres de-Spania, SEMHP/Sorbonne).
National and international divulging of the results will also be achieved through: 1) scientific meetings; 2)publication of articles and monographs in specialized reviews and editors; 3)collaboration with northern local institutions. |
