The Organic Chemistry Department carries out applied and basic research covering the different areas of Medicinal Chemistry. Some of the projects are interdisciplinary in Nature, covering other transversal scientific domains.
The research goals include rational design, synthesis, isolation from natural sources, structure elucidation, determination of biophysicochemical parameters of bioactive compounds, artificial molecular recognition and exploitation of the potential of nanotechnology-based approaches, to efficiently deliver the compounds and to improve their biological activities (antitumor, immunomodulatory, PKC modulation, transthyretin inhibition, antioxidant, anticoagulant, antimalarial, and antifungal).
