Presentation

The Mobility Office (MO) of ICBAS is responsible for the coordination, monitoring and operational support of the several mobility programs.

The MO cooperates directly with the International Relations Office of U.Porto Rectory, establishing a permanent contact, so there is a constant update of information.

One of the primordial objectives of the MO is to receive and accompany the incoming students, by providing all the indispensable information. Thus, the MO guides these students through all necessary procedures and helps them in the adaptation to a new academic environment.

How to get to ICBAS

The new ICBAS building is flanked by the Crystal Palace- Rosa Mota Pavilion and the CICAP Old Quarters (opposite to the Soares dos Reis Museum), now an integral part of the facilities of the Central Hospital of Porto (CHP) - Santo Antonio Hospital. Thus, ICBAS is close to CHP and Julio Dinis Maternity, and relatively near to the Rectory of the University of Porto, so students can move on foot ( mapa).

Academic Calendar

The academic calendar of U.Porto is composed by two semesters: the 1st, which beginnings in september and ends at february; and the 2nd, which beginnings in february and ends at july. However, each course, and even each academic year (1st, 2nd, etc.), contains a specific calendar: Academic Calendars.

Classification System

The University of Porto uses the ECTS Grading system. The number of ECTS credits for each course reflects the total number of hours a student is expected to devote to the course (in the form of lectures, homework, reading, essays, consultations, seminars, etc.). 60 ECTS credits are attached to the workload of a full-time year of formal learning (academic year) and the associated learning outcomes. At the University of Porto, one credit corresponds to 27 hours of student total work.

  • 1 full academic year = 60 credits
  • 1 semester = 30 credits

Local Grades awarded on a scale of 0-20 (pass mark 10):

Quantitative Scale Qualitative Scale
18 a 20 Excellent
16 a 17 Very Good
14 a 15 Good
10 a 13 Sufficient
0 a 9 Fail
