Objectives
The objective of this course is to guide the students to the professional areas of Psychology, allowing them to know the different areas and specialities of Psychology, namely the specialities included in the Master in Psychology at FPCEUP, as well as their objectives, core contents, practices and potential professional outlets, namely:
a) Clinical and Health Psychology;
b) Psychology of Education and Human
Development;
c) Organizational, Social and Work Psychology;
d) Psychology of Justice and Deviance.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of this CU, students should:
1. Know the different areas and specialities of Psychology;
2. Have come into contact with professionals, researchers and workplaces of Psychologists working in the various fields of expertise featured in the Master in Psychology of the FPCEUP;
3. Be able to choose a specialty of Psychology and make an informed decision about career choices;
4. Be able to reflect in depth on the choice to be made regarding the professional future after the completion of the degree in Psychology

3. The organization of the areas of speciality in the exercise of Psychology included in the Master in Psychology at FPCEUP, namely regarding:
a. The goals;
b. The organization of the areas;
c. Skills and practices to be developed;
d. Academic internships: locations and types of practices;
e. Potential professional opportunities.
4. The professional practice of psychologists: Presentation of different professional and research paths.

Teaching methods and learning activities
The CU is structured according to the specialty areas of FPCEUP, each one of these areas being responsible for ¼ of the classes, except for a general
introductory part. The structure of the classes is identical for all areas, using the following methodologies:
1. Content exposure classes with discussion;
2. Seminars presented by Psychology professionals and/or researchers, about their professional or research practice;
3. Discussion and reflection on the opportunities and challenges posed by the different areas;
4. Organization of activities that allow experiencing the professional practice of Psychology;
5. Autonomous study;

Eligibility for exams
Classes are subject to verification of attendance. Students who miss more than 25% of predicted classes will not be subject to assessment.
Calculation formula of final grade
Distributed evaluation without final exam comprising (i) the presentation of one individual work (85%); and (ii) the class participation (15%).
Classification improvement
The improvement of the grade can only be done by attending the course the following year.
