Objectives

The CU Psychology and Lifelong Learning (PLL) welcomes new conceptual perspectives that aim, above all, to promote the recognition of the role of Psychology and its professionals in the context of adult education and training.

The intention is to reinforce a matrix in which the training and education of adults is conceived in a wider (and modern) context of Lifelong Learning and assumed as a process in which each person (also) has to invest time, energy and, eventually, means and resources.

The way in which the CU is organized seeks to (re)situate the problematic of lifelong learning, highlighting evidence from various fields of psychology where emerging views that consider learning throughout life as an opportunity for development, personal and professional enrichment

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of this course, students should know/be able to:

- Know the main themes of the domain of lifelong learning in the broader conceptual framework of its psychological dimensions.

- Understand the variety of roles of the psychologist in learning and training contexts, namely in terms of guidance, counseling and rehabilitation

- Know how the models of education and professional training for young people and adults that take place in Portugal are organized, understand how they work, know how to describe them and insert them in the whole educational system, as well as carry out their critical analysis.

- Know some of the (new) challenges of the actions of psychology professionals in the domains of lifelong learning, in the context of climate change and sustainable development.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Based on adult education and training practices, theoretical classes mobilize students' experiences and knowledge about this field of action, which are the (negotiated) support for the development of an explanation/ discussion/reflection of the main themes and contents of the CU.

To this aim, contact, knowledge and exploration of the main areas of interaction between LLL and Psychology will be actively promoted, bringing together relevant models, professionals and socio-professional actors in these ecosystems.

Eligibility for exams

Classes are subject to attendance verification. Students who miss more than 25% of scheduled classes will not attend the exam

Calculation formula of final grade

The evaluation of this curricular unit is based on three components: Conducting fieldwork, exploring dimensions of lifelong learning (25%), combined with class participation and attendance (25%); realization of a reflective report about the LLL model/context/practice that they were able to explore, which will be presented in class (50%).

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The final grades for students with special status include the same evaluation components as the other students

Classification improvement

The students that missed, failed or want improve can do new written test for the theoretical component, a single time, until the end of the exam calendar of the  school year.
