Objectives

To provide an integrated perspective on the phenomena of inclusion and exclusion in several contexts of social life, specifically, in small interactive groups, in community, and in society at large. 

To provide conceptual, analytical and intervention instruments.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should have developed:

- their knowledge about the socio-cognitive and emotional processes underlying discrimination and exclusion.

- their knowledge of specific aspects of the discrimination of members of several stigmatized minorities (handicapped, aged people, ex-inmates, gypsies, etc.).

- their analytical and intervention competences in instances of bullying, mobbing, ostracization of individuals or groups, and discrimination of members of social minorities.

Basic cognitive and motivational processes associated with inclusion and exclusion.
Levels and contexts of inclusion and exclusion.

2. Inclusion and exclusion in groups.
Motives and processes in the management of group composition.
Group cohesion and inclusion and exclusion of members.

Assimilation versus integration of minorities.
Intergroup contact: desegregation and the role of interpersonal relations in promoting the inclusion of social groups.

Eligibility for exams

Attendance required to 75% of effective classes.

Calculation formula of final grade

The evaluation of the unit includes two components: in group (60%) and individually (40%). The group component includes the design and implementation of an empirical study, its presentation in the classroom(30%), and a written report (30%). The individual component includes active participation in classes (5%) and a theoretical work based on the theme and results of the empirical study carried out in a group (35%).

Examinations or Special Assignments

Writing a report and presentation of the study conducted in small group. Writing an individual paper on the same theme.

Not applicable.

As previewed in the evaluation regulations of the faculty. 

Classification improvement

The improvement of the final grade may be done on the individual component through the elaboration of a new paper.
