Objectives

It is its main goal to promote the construction of conceptual frameworks in the field oof community psychology.

 

Learning outcome: At the end of the semester, students should be capable to:

(a) Acquire knowledge concerning community intervention projects and critically analyse them;

(b)Critically and carefully analyse and question, based on recent research, objectives, methods and strategies of intervention modalities in personal and contextual systems, concerning a diversity of problems, populations and contexts;

(c)Design community projects in personal and contextual systems: family, school, organizations and communities.

(d) Present and debate recent investigation projects of community intervention, by writing and orally.

Learning outcomes and competences

 

At the end of the semester, students should be able to:

  • Historically situate and characterize the progressive expansion of the modalities of psychological intervention, in line with the diversity of its objectives, targets and strategies, and base its pertinence by framing it in a developmental, constructivist and ecological reading of Preventive Psychology of Mental Health, Clinical Social Psychology and Community Psychology;
  • Analyze and question, critically and judiciously, based on existing research, objectives, methods and strategies of each of the modalities of intervention in the personal system and in the contextual system, in relation to a diversity of problems, populations and contexts;
  • Plan the development, implementation and evaluation of community psychological intervention projects in relation to a variety of problems, populations and contexts;
  • To present and discuss, orally and in writing, investigations into the various modalities of Community psychological intervention, as well as the intervention plans they themselves draw up in this area.

1st Chapter: Developmental, constructivist and ecological model of community, social and preventive psychological counselling and historical contextualization of community psychology.

 

2nd Chapter: General aspects referring to the elaboration, implementation and assessment of psychological developmental interventions.

 

3rd Chapter: Skills development aiming to deal with life, transitions and developmental tasks.

 

4th Chapter: Cognitive structures of human action development: the discussion of moral dilemmas and the deliberate psychological education.

 

5th Chapter: Consultancy: consultancy types and process.

 

6th Chapter: Promotion and development of Social Support Networks. Intervention modalities in social support networks.

7th Chapter: Involvement in change projects of institutional and community life contexts: (a) Research-action (b) advocacy interventions and communities’ empowering.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The methodology of teaching/learning is student-focused, previously supervised by the teacher. Such activities will be developed in small groups, tutorial moments of individual support; and moments of independent work.

Moments of attendance in small groups, involving moments focusing the study, presentation and critical analysis of research on projects community intervention, based on articles published in journals of the speciality

 Continuous assessment without final exam includes the following two components:

(a) Participation in the weekly classes where attendance is required (50%)

(b) Individual work: when attending classes (50%): This part of evaluation consist of an individual work to be developed while attending classes and in writing, in the last day of classes
