Objectives
- Analyzing the field of arts education regarding socio-historical and epistemological dynamics;
- establishing critical connections between history, culture and art interventions discourses;
- addressing the study of visual culture by questioning naturalized, universal and inevitable narratives in arts education;
- reflecting on the contexts of image production and their mechanisms of material and political domination;
- discussing the field of image in contemporary culture and the visual form of the social and human experience;
Learning outcomes and competences
- Considering the field of arts education as a place for the production of knowledges about interventions in art, images and the contemporary;
- recognizing the need to review the dominant narratives in arts education based on a decolonial, anti-sexist and counter-hegemonic visual culture;
- understanding that the study of visual culture implies a critical pedagogy in arts education;
- critically explore research problems in arts education and visual culture;
- questioning personal and theoretical points of view to reveal a critical implication in arts education;

Eligibility for exams
The assessment scheme adopted assumes compliance with the compulsory attendance. It is considered that the student complied with the attendance, having been regularly enrolled and to that extent not exceeding the limit number of fouls, corresponding to 25% provided for (cf. Article 9, 2 of regulation of evaluation).
Calculation formula of final grade
Group project produced during the semester.
- Qualified participation on classes and project presentation/discussion - 50%
- Written paper (up to 10 pages) on the project and personal critical reflection - 50%

Students who by law are required to frequently in class may be called upon to perform a particular paper, with a view to the assessment of skills and knowledge provided in this course. To this end, such a situation of layoff must be communicated to the teacher at the beginning of classes, with a view to defining the terms of delivery of special paper (cf. Article 7, 4 of regulation of evaluation).
Classification improvement
Improvements in the final assessment will take place under the terms of the regulation of evaluation (i.e. only once and in one of the two seasons immediately subsequent to that assessment in which students obtained approval), and shall consist of a written exam.
