Objectives
Students attending this course will develop the following expertise:
a) critical thinking and an integrative view of the psychotherapy processes based on a systemic and constructivist approach;
b) psychotherapy skills and techniques training to apply on individual, couple, family or community therapies.

3. hypothesis and assessment systemic skills
4. specific tools and techniques used in contemporary psychotherapy and selection according to specific characteristics of both the client(s) and the process.

a. Benefits and iatrogenic effects
b. outcome assessment and differential effectiveness of psychotherapeutic models
2. Client and therapist variables
a. The client cognitive scheme and meaning-making and systemic hypothesis; difficulties in clinic hypothesis formulation
b. Structure and flexibility in session planning
c. Relationship, alliance, and therapeutic distance
d. The client as expert: not-knowing approach, curiosity, positive connotation
3. Psychotherapeutic change and psychotherapeutic processes
a. first and second order changes
b. therapeutic change techniques: relaxation and centering; problem-solving and cognitive restructuring; "as if", role-playing, sculpture; metaphor; rituals; solution-focused therapy; paradox prescription
c. dropout and ending
4. The psychotherapist: constructs, narratives and subjective positions leading to an integrative perspective.

Eligibility for exams
The student must be present in 75% of the given lectures. Approval requires a minimum grade of 9 points on the work presentation component.
Calculation formula of final grade
- active participation in class 30%
- work presentation 70%
Grades are presented on a 0 to 20 scale.
Examinations or Special Assignments
Due to time constraints and limited vacancies, mobility students present their work in the form of a paper. This paper should address the application of one of the techniques lectured in class applied to a specific population or disorder.
This paper should be accompanied by the following declaration (UPorto ethics code Despacho nº GR.06/12/2017):
"I hereby declare that the present paper is of my own authorship and has not been used previously in other courses or institutions. Citations to other authors strictly obey the rules of authorship attribution and are indicated both throughout the text and on the references section following the indicated output style. Follows the general rules of FPCEUP (cf. art. 11). Classification improvement
Follows the general rules of FPCEUP (cf. art. 11). The improvement of the final mark is possible by conducting an oral exam substituting the work presentation component grade. This may be done up to the year immediately following the year when the student had the classification. Observations
