Similarly to Research Seminar I, Research Seminar II also intends to contribute to the design and development of the research project and thesis, through the development of conceptual and methodological skills. Throughout the second semester, students work on the final version of their thesis project.
By the end of the semester students should be capable of:
a) presenting a written document with their research project, according to established norms
b) presenting orally their research project and discussing conceptual and methodological decisions.
In addition to the methodological and conceptual aspects required in defining the thesis project, during this semester some doctoral students begin the preparatory work necessary for the implementation of their project. This work includes the selection of participants, preliminary studies of the instruments, pilot studies, and ethical procedures, among other aspects.
The doctoral student is included, whenever possible, in a research group, either within FPCEUP or within research performed in other institutions. In this context, presentation and discussion of theoretical essays or perspectives and research are undertaken. Tutorial guidance, normally on a weekly basis.
