Objectives
- To acquire knowledge about the current contours of education in Portugal and in the European context
- To understand the potential of the arts as an ethical, aesthetic and supportive human experience
- To develop appropriate skills to work with the arts in education
- To develop critical and reflexive thinking

Learning outcomes and competences
This module focuses on the integration of theoretical and practical knowledge about education with the arts as an opportunity for human development.
The module involves an approximation to local, national and European realities, including contact with key community members.
Successful completion of this module implies that students will be able to:
Show an understanding of the current situation of education in Portugal and in the European context
Reveal knowledge about the role of the arts in building a more meaningful and humanized education
Building a vision of possibility in education with the arts
Show theoretical / practical knowledge about education outside and within the school
Elaborate appropriate arts based research on education in a relevant ethical framework and using this knowledge
Value and show the critical appropriation of a series of skills on education with the arts

Eligibility for exams
The attainment of the UC implies:
1 - At least 75% attendance of the planned classes
2 – Devolution to the group of the theoretical and practical integration by the student making resource to the arts
3 – Critical reflection on learning (2000 words)
4 - Design and rationale of an arts-based artefact.
5 – Oral participation in seminars
