Objectives

This curricular unit aims to broaden the study of the principles, models and intervention practices in the field of social work, focusing the social and socioeducational mediation approaches as alternative modalities of political and cognitive definition of social problems, leading to the definition of intervention practices sensitive to complexity and heterogeneity of the new social issues.

In this sense the aims of the subject are:

To politically and historically contextualize the issues of social mediation and the local action dimensions in the transition from a societarian organization focused on the state to a market oriented society;

To understand the central role of conflict in the diverse approaches to mediation and the diverse visions of the social role of subjects it implies;

To distinguish different perspectives guiding the mediation intervention.

Learning outcomes and competences

This curricular unit aims to present and discuss models and practices of social mediation as alternative modes of political and cognitive definition of social fabric and problems, framing them on recent transformations of regulation and social intervention modes. In this sense, it is expected that the learning outcomes of UC students are:

  - To politically and historically contextualize the issues of social mediation in the transition from a societarian organization focused on the state to a market oriented society;

 - To understand the central role of conflict in the diverse approaches to mediation and the diverse visions of the social role of subjects it implies;

 - To distinguish different perspectives guiding the mediation intervention.

   - Identification of distinct approaches of [conflict] mediation and their adequacy in intervention contexts by means of multiple case analyses;
