In the end of this course the students should be able to:
- Understand and explain the principles of neuropsychological assessment as well the theoretical models that support neuropsychological assessment.
- Know the major neuropsychological deficits (selection), integrating the cognitive and the neurofunctional aspects.
- Describe accuracy and error indicators underlying neuropsychological assessment.
- Show expertise skills regarding neuropsychological assessment: preparatory interview (neuropsychological history), screening and examination procedures.
- Plan a neuropsychological battery (neuropsychological tests and other examination techniques) according the patient deficits and elaborate a written report (performance description and interpretation).
- Give clinical and rehabilitation guidelines according to the neuropsychological assessment results.
- Neurocognitive models of human behavior.
- Major brain disorders, neurocognitive dysfunctions and behavior implications.
- Principals and models of neuropsychological assessment.
- The neuropsychological examination: Procedures.
- Neuropsychological tests and batteries, examination and interpretation.
- Training neuropsychological assessment skills: tests selection, screening and examination, interpretation and rehabilitation guidelines.
- Expository lectures and demonstration of techniques and methodologies in group.
- Training of examination skills in small groups and videos exploration/discussion regarding the cerebral functions and mental processes.
- Neuroanatomical models manipulation and self-directed learning (interactive multimedia CD).
- Observational experiences in clinical context at the Neuropsychological Assessment and Rehabilitation Counseling Services at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Porto. Discussion of clinical cases.

Attendance of 75% of seminars.
The final grade results from the grade obtained in the final exam (free response), with a weighting o 90%, plus 10 of participation in class (e.g., administration of neuropsychological assessment materials, active participation in discussions on the topics under study).
Students can optionally do work on adaptation and validation of neuropsychological tests. In this case, they will be free of answering to one question of the final exam.
The final grade can be upgrade by doing a new exam (100%).
The upgrade will be done only once, in one of the two final exam periods immediately following that in which they passed and in which the UC has scheduled examination.
