Objectives

 

The Curricular unit in Sexual Therapy aims to promote knowledge in the field of sexual problems and difficulties and develop skills of assessment, diagnosis and intervention in several sexual disorders. This is an area of knowledge and intervention of central relevance to the biopsychosocial health, taking into account not only the prevalence of sexual problems in the population (epidemiological studies indicate significant values), as its consequences for the psychological well-being of those who suffer

Learning outcomes and competences

-Identify and characterize the various sexual disorders according to the major systems of classification and diagnosis (e.g., DSM, ICD) and assign clinical multiaxial diagnosis according to the DSM-5 criteria 

-know the main data concerning epidemiology, associated commorbidity and socio-demographic predictors of sexual disorders

-Identify the objectives, the process and the various methods of assessment of sexual disorders

-know the main etiological factors and models of bio-psycho-social conceptualization of sexual disorders

-Kmow the main therapeutic intervention strategies for sexual disorders

-Learn about the studies concerning the therapeutic efficacy of sexual therapies

-Develop evaluation and intervention skills

Teaching methods and learning activities

 

The theoretical component of the syllabus is oriented mostly to the main themes that constitute the program. The practical teaching methods include: 1) text reading and discussion of clinical cases, 2) discussion and debate of topics in the class, 3)  literature review using scientific databases (b-on, PsychInfo, EBSCO, Google Scholar, etc.), 4) Critical reading of the scientific literature in the area 5) Presentation of practical works in the classroom.

Eligibility for exams

 

The evaluation will include a practical component (CP) and a theoretical component (CT).  The practical component (CP) is 35% of the final grade in the course and will be evaluated through a practical work. The theoretical component (CT) is 65% of the final grade in the course and will be evaluated through a written test.

 

To obtain approval, students are expected to comply with each of the following criteria:

 

1. Obtain a final grade equal to or greater than 9.5; 

 

2. Obtain the following minimum scores in each component:

 

a. minimum of 8 values in the practical component

 

b. minimum of 8 values in final written test

 

3. Perform all proposed evaluation components.
