Objectives
This curricular unit aims at complementing initial training in an emerging area, offering students a wide overview of conflict management and mediation processes.
This curricular unit is based on a wide understanding of the concept of culture, and therefore it does not restrict intercultural mediation to mediation between individuals and groups of different nations or ethnical backgrounds; here, intercultural mediation also encompasses work with minorities.
Objectives (learning outcomes):
- to identify the nature of conflicts, their sources and dynamics;
. to identify different approaches to conflict management, with an emphasis on perception and communication issues;
- to master a conflict mediation process;
- to master fundamental ethical issues in conflict management and mediation.
Competences to acquire:
- to analyses the components of a given conflict;
- to apply processes and techniques of conflict management and mediation;
- to design approaches to conflict management and mediation.

0. Conflicts: nature, typologies, diagnostic models and administration models.
1. Perception: frames and cognitive biases.
2. Communitcation: fundamental models.
3. Conflicts and cultural differences: nationality, ethnicity, gender, social position.
4. Mediation.
