Master Degree in Educational Sciences

2014-2016 edition:

  • Education, Communities and Social Change – The domain “Education, Communities and Social Change” crosses the heritage of knowledge and intervention of two research areas – “Policy, Policies and Participation” and “Local Development and Adults Education and Training” -  in a proposal that, globally, seeks to promote the development of modes of research and intervention attentive to the dynamics of local/communitarian and participatory processes of education and training production, concerning diverse problems and various target groups, and the socio-political dimensions that involve and configure those dynamics. In particular, it aims to provide students with the acquisition of knowledge and skills that allow to: i) reflect on policies, programs, projects and practices of educational, social and community intervention and its educational meanings and conceptions of social change; ii ) support and develop professional practices of socio-educational intervention in fields such as community intervention, socio-cultural animation, youth and adults education and the training of trainers and other professionals in human development; iii ) develop , implement and evaluate intervention and consultation processes, anchored in participatory research procedures, in diverse problematics and with various target groups, enabling to (re)create social ties at the local and community levels and to influence the construction of a more equitable and resilient society.
  • The curriculum domain Planning, Supervision and Assessment in Education – PSAE -is framed by national and international challenges towards the promotion of the development of societies and assurance of educational principles of equity and social justice, and it assumes a perspective combining macro, meso, and micro levels of analysis and intervention in education. Aiming to train for educational management, decision-making, coordination and cooperation  in the fields of assessment, supervision and educational planning, it focus on the assessment of learning, institutions and educational systems, and on teacher education policies and practices. Its specific curriculum units organize in dialogue with local, national and international research and around the identification of core paradigms and theories, critical analysis of policies, projects and programs, and design of research projects and intervention.
  • Youth, Education and Citizenship - Which place do young people have in a changing Europe? What are their expectations and what are the expectations upon them? Youth, Education and Citizenship is a field of the Master in Education Sciences that aims to provide and produce knowledge about the contemporary changes of young people diverse worlds, both online and offline. It aims to analyse how young people pathways, cultures and networks are being constructed or challenged. If the historical and social construction of youth will be under analysis, a specific attention will be paid to the new configurations of youth transitions, namely when impacted by the current economic and financial crisis. Following this alignment, to understand the production or the reinforcement of precariousness and risks, but also to acknowledge youth expectations, strategies and resilience’s is crucial for analysing young people contemporary challenges. Research and intervention aspects to be explored will bring into the discussion the European agenda for youth, namely some priorities identified in Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020 programmes: unemployment, participation or early school leaving.

    This master field aims to integrate research, awareness of key policy aspects and the development of professional capacity in working with a diversity of young people populations and contexts. Therefore, students will contact with a variety of research and intervention methodologies in order to be able to propose plans to engage young people in sustainable and well performing educational pathways.
