Objectives
The objectives of the unit are:
- To mobilize different theoretical contributions from history, sociology, gender studies, and feminist studies to reflect on gender, the body, and gender-based violence;
- To draw on theoretical contributions about the body and citizenship from historical, sociological, and gender studies perspectives;
- To deepen and relate the socio-historical construction of the body and gender to the cultural foundations of gender-based violence;
- To develop skills in conducting educational research in the field of gender studies;
- To develop socio-educational intervention skills in the fields of gender equality and gender-based violence.
Learning outcomes and competences
Students are expected to:
- Identify concepts from different theoretical and historical perspectives related to gender, the body, and violence;
- Connect research on the body with gender studies and research in the field of gender-based violence;
- Apply concepts and perspectives to critically analyze everyday situations, both at the local, national, and international levels;
- Use the acquired knowledge to reflect on socio-educational intervention and the development of research projects in these areas.

Teaching methods and learning activities
This Unit provides the specific theoretical foundation for this field, therefore, the teaching methodologies will prioritize pedagogical strategies aimed at mobilising contributions, concepts, and theoretical-historical perspectives.
However, alongside content-based pedagogy, other teaching strategies will also be employed, including:

Eligibility for exams
Continuous assessment with final exam.
Attendance requirements: Students must attend and actively participate in at least 75% of the course sessions and achieve a minimum grade of 9.5 (out of 20) in all assessment components.
Calculation formula of final grade
Class participation: 10%
Group oral presentation of a text: 30%
Individual essay: 60%
It is required that students are approved in all components of the assessment.
