Objectives

The course "Research Methods I" is composed of three components with the following main objectives 1) introduction to research methods and topics in sexuality research, 2) Research design and the development of a research project, 3) Seminars with researchers in the different areas of the Doctoral Program in Human Sexuality.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be able to:

  1. Know the history of research in Human Sexuality and the main characteristics of the methodology in Sexuality Research;
  2. Understand the components and challenges of research design;
  3. Know the main topics of research in the different areas of the Doctoral Program in Human Sexuality;
  4. Design a specific research proposal.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Eligibility for exams

Assessment

The curricular unit will be evaluated through a pre-project of the thesis on a subject within the existing research lines in sexuality at Porto University.


In order to be approved in this course, the students should:

1. Obtain a grade of 9,5 or superior
2. Complete all components of the evaluation

Calculation formula of final grade

FINAL GRADE = (pre-project of the thesis*0,80 + participation in the classes*0,20)

The curricular unit will be evaluated through a pre-project of the thesis on a subject within the existing research lines in sexuality at the University of Porto.
