Objectives

The goal of the CE is to foster a comprehensive and critical perspective of the methodologies of recognition, validation and certification of prior learning in the context of adult education and training and of lifelong learning.

Learning outcomes and competences

To know the reasons of emergence of the methodologies of recognition, validation and certification of prior learning in the context of adult education and training and of lifelong learning.

To understand the  processes that support the methodologies of recognition of non formal and informal acquisitions, namely career guidance, identification and assessment of skills.

Acquisition of capacities and instruments  - both conceptual and methodological –related to processes of prior learning recognition, namely Bilan de Compétences.

Knowledge/ discussion of the most relevant devices in the domain of skills validation, such as tests/exams, observation, simulation, declarative methods, portfolio.

To understand the historical process of development of these methodologies in Portugal, namely their various institutional locations, devices, conceptual sustainability and insertion in  wider framework of the national qualifications system.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Exposition/discussion of the main themes and contents of this  curricular unit. Exploration of work documents, methodological guides, action and activities proposals along the main domains of prior learning recognition, validation and accreditation methodologies. Contact with professionals and experts in the areas of implementation of methodologies, exploration of a diversity of contexts where they are developed (schools, enterprises, training centres, adult education and training courses, adult education centres).

Evaluation is based in the elaboration of a work project publicly presented in a thematic seminar, exploring some of the central themes of this curricular unit. The project focused on the themes discussed and presented during the classes is expected to include an original work or research proposal related to the themes of the methodologies of prior learning recognition, validation and accreditation, mainly stemming from informal and non-formal experiences
