Objectives
The student is expected to acquire the following knowledges, skills and competences: 1) discuss different questions inherent to the couples' dialectical process as a whole; 2) situate the couple's life cycle transitions (pregnancy, parenthood…) and their relationship with intimacy; 3) understand the dynamics between intimacy and sexuality; 4) frame the biological, social and cultural dimensions of sexuality within the marital life cycle; 5) know intervention techniques and strategies: 6) understand the specifities inherent to research in this domain; 7) execute a research plan taking into consideration the ethical and methodological questions of dyadic research.

The systemic approach and its importance to the understanding of marital relationships; the dialectic process of sexuality and its interaction with biological, psychological and contextual (distal and proximal) factors; fundamental notions and their conceptualization in different theoretical, research and intervention models within the marital/sexual system (e.g., functionality, satisfaction, interdependency, desire…); conceptualization of intimacy in an integrative model and its relationship with sexuality; normative transitions (pregnancy, parenthood, post-parental…), non-normative transitions (infertility, chronic diseases, grieving…) and sexuality; specificities in formulating research questions, collecting data, ethical considerations, statistical analyses, and discussion of findings when considering the couple as unit of analysis.

Eligibility for exams
The student must be present in 75% of the given lectures. Approval requires a minimum grade of 9 points on the work presentation component.
Calculation formula of final grade
- active participation in class 25%
- work presentation 75%
Grades are presented on a 0 to 20 scale.
