Objectives

- To discuss health and mental illness as a socially constructed phenomena, and as a professional intervention area that involves the individual, the family and the community.

- To select different models and intervention techniques in Rehabilitation and Mental Health.

- To apply evidence-based psychosocial intervention techniques/strategies according to the needs and characteristics of people with different mental illness experiences.

- To identify natural and community resources to support the participation and social integration of people with different mental illness experiences.

- To promote critical thinking about psychosocial rehabilitation and mental illness.

Learning outcomes and competences

Preparing students to discuss health and mental illness as a socially constructed phenomenon and as a professional area involving the individual, the family and the community, it is necessary to discuss the concepts of health, mental health and rehabilitation. We also present some concepts, examples of interventions and examples of combating stigma, as well as the role of caregivers and the motivation for recovery. It is also referred the contribution of Positive Psychology and Community Psychology for rehabilitation in mental illness, and discussed how to empower and  change attitudes of individual with mental illness, their families and the community.

- Health, mental illness and rehabilitation: concepts, interventions and combating stigma; the role of caregivers; the motivation for recovery; social exclusion; functionality.

- Positive Psychology and Community Psychology: contribution to rehabilitation in mental illness; empowerment and the attitude of individual with mental illness, their family and the community.

- Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Mental Health Models: ClubHouse Model, Assertive Community Treatment, Choose-Get-Keep (CGK) Program Model.

- Evidence-based interventions: cognitive rehabilitation/social cognition; social skills training; individual and family psychoeducation; cognitive-behavioral therapies; stress management, relaxation and emotional regulation; peer support; functional skills training in different occupational areas.

- Support system for residential, educational, professional and social participation and integration: natural resources versus community support structures.
