Objectives

The general goal of the various MTP Seminars is to deepen the knowledge and skills that allow a proficient and critical use of research in the field of Psychology and related fields, and to plan the development of an individual original research, empirical or theoretical, in a specific field (thematic areas).

 

This unit specifically aims to foster the understanding of:

1- How to critically analyze existing research, reflecting on the theoretical, practical, and ethical implications

2- How to select appropriate methods in the field of study

3- How to develop a research design adequate to the research questions, including methods of data collection (to identify and analyse sources of information such as surveys and interviews, and procedures) and analysis.

 

Learning outcomes and competences

1- To develop and organize a logical argument grounded in the analysis of evidence that supports a research question

2- To demonstrate a deeper knowledge of methods in the major subject/field of study.

3- To develop an individual research design by applying adequate scientific methods in a specific domain (thematic areas)

Teaching methods and learning activities

Contact sessions: Tutorial work meetings with the supervisor; individual and group guidance and support to the development of the research design; formative and summative evaluation activities

Invited experts create opportunity to enhance and diversify the training of the students; students’ sharing of their diverse professional experiences/scientific fields represents an additional gain

Student autonomous work: literature search and review; development of a research design

Eligibility for exams

Students must attend at least 75% of the contact hours, attend selected classes, meet with the supervisor and submit a written research design, in which they must achieve the minimum grade of 9. 5 out of 20.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final classification is obtained by the supervisor continuous assessment (representing 50% of the final classification) and by the written project (representing 50% of the final classification).
