Objectives

The discipline aims to provide knowledge acquisition, skills development and the analysis and reflection on professional contexts and situations in the field of socio-educational mediation and training, contributing to the profile setting of an undergraduate in Educational Sciences. The course highlights a multireferential approach of training departing from conceptual contributions, especially from sociology and social psychology, establishing connections with issues related to cognition, communication and human relationships and organizational and educational policies.

Learning outcomes and competences

It is expected that the students demonstrate skills and abilities on:

a) domain of different conceptual and methodological paradigms about socio-educational mediation;
b) learning of different theoretical conceptions in the field of mediation;
c) questioning of the educational work from the conceptual and methodological perspective of mediation;
d) critical analysis of socio-educational issues departing from theoretical and empirical frameworks of mediation’s field
e) development of devices for intervention in education, using mediation concepts;
f) building of cognitive frameworks on different professional realities of a socio-educational mediator and of training processes;
g) participation in the implementation of policies based on educational innovation, mobilizing knowledge and methodologies of mediation;
h) implementation of socio-educational mediation and training processes.

1. Introduction to mediation
- Social transformation, building of mediation as a concept and institutionalization of mediation practices;
- For an epistemology of mediation practices: multireferenciality and epistemology of listening.
2. Meanings and fields of mediation
- Meanings: means of social regulation; political process; ethical dimension; philosophical dimension;
- Fields: cultural mediation; school mediation; social mediation; conflict mediation; community mediation; and institutional mediation.
3. Paradigms and models of mediation
- Mediation: focused on the participants; addressed to conflicts resolution; focused on transformation; narrative; and as an integrated human process;
- Models: linear traditional; transformative; and narrative circular.
4. Mediation and educational work
- Mediation and socio-educational ethics;
- Mediation and educational relationship;
- Mediation and cognition;
- Mediation and communication;
5. Methodological perspectives of social mediation: the specificity of the educational work

Teaching methods and learning activities

Contact time (TP) covers theoretical exposition dialogue, analysis and discussion of texts, analysis and discussion of reports from socio and training mediators, presentation and discussion of group work and evaluation processes; autonomous work considers the research and critical analysis, in small groups, of educational cases and intervention projects from socio mediation, a written individual work and learning evaluation.

Eligibility for exams

The evaluation model adopted assumes completion of attendance according to law as for other college courses and without prejudice to paragraph 4 of Article 9 of Regulation Assessment. Mandatory attendance corresponds to 3/4 of the number of classes actually performed.

Calculation formula of final grade

Learning evaluation is expressed on a scale of 0 to 20 as in a distributive model with final exam. The distributive dimension, which will be counted as 60% of the final evaluation, refers to the work in small groups, considering the following dimensions: summary written about the research and analysis carried out (50%) and the presentation and class discussion (50%). The final exam concerns an individual work (40%) of critical analysis of four texts from the collection relating to different contents of the syllabus.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Students who are exempted from the contact hours of the discipline (UC) by law will be asked to perform a special exam of attendance character to assess mastery of skills and syllabus of the discipline (uc). This exam is shaped as an oral defense of a critical overview of the contents of the discipline (uc), proceeded by a document to be delivered in the last week of classes. To this end, the students in such conditions should contact the professor in the first week of classes in order to agree a training plan that will enable the achievement of the above mentioned exam.

Classification improvement

In line with order No. GR.02105 / 2010, the / the students may make improvements regarding exam classifications. It can happen once during one of the two seasons of final examination immediately following the period in which approval was obtained. The improvement demands the reformulating of individual work.
