To know the epistemological traditions, the central characteristics and the different phases of qualitative research • To develop skills for planning qualitative research in social sciences • To know and be able to apply qualitative research methods and techniques at different levels: data collection, data analysis and interpretation of results • To de able to implement the different phases of a qualitative research project: definition of the problem, planning, elaboration of research design, writing research questions, selection of data collection method(s), data collection, analysis and interpretation of results • To acquire competences to write a scientific paper on qualitative research • To acquire basic knowledge on mixed methods research design • To be proficient in procedures to guarantee quality and validity of data and interpretations in qualitative and in mixed methods research designs.
At the end of the course, Master's students should be able to create conditions for the construction of scientific knowledge and teaching to enable them to become competent professionals and develop as people capable of developing qualitative research
In this sense, the skills acquired in this course should, above all, establish itself as an educational resource. Training should thus provide an adequate learning of qualitative approaches and their methods of collecting and analyzing data.
Epistemological traditions and central characteristics of qualitative research. The applications of qualitative methods to social research: theoretical and applied research; the functions of different qualitative methods; combining qualitative and quantitative methods The different phases of qualitative research: definition and formulation of the problem; design and sampling in qualitative research; formulation of research questions, data collection, coding and categorizing procedures, data analysis and interpretation Strategies and methods in qualitative research: (a) in data collection: different types of interviews, different kinds of observation, focus groups, Q-sort; (b) in data analysis: content analysis, discourse analysis, analysis of narratives case study, and grounded theory approach Validity and quality control of data and interpretations – triangulation in qualitative and quantitative research Reporting and presenting qualitative data.

Where the statute does not allow the student will attend classes (WS, AAC ...), students can take advantage of this right in relation to participation in classroom lessons. However, taking into account the characteristics of the assessment components of this course, the student will have to participate in class (at least 75%) and perform activities that are subject to evaluation. Other situations involving a special assessment will be analyzed together with the teacher at the beginning of the semester.
It is possible to improve the grade of the final exam at the second phase of exams
