Cycles of Study/Courses
Objectives
1) Students are to become acquainted with how vocational training and adult education systems are organized in Portugal, being able to understand their functioning, describe them and integrate them into the whole social system, as well as to analyse them critically;
2) Students should also acquire skills to intervene among several actors of vocational training and adult education from a specifically psychological point of view, taking into account the various problems that these actors are confronted with;
3) Furthermore, they should be able to cooperate with other professionals in the field of vocational training and adult education to support the attainment of results, thus contributing to promote the development of the respective target-populations.
Program
Theoretical lessons
The subject comprises three major parts:
(b) The organization of vocational training and adult educational systems in Portugal, their recent history, current situation and short-term perspectives, namely within the scope of the European Union;
(c) Dimensions of psychological intervention in vocational training and adult education within trainers and trainees regarding both the development of training contents and the teaching-learning methodologies,
(d) Psychological intervention compared to the ones of other professionals involved in vocational training and adult education.
Practical lessons
Practical activities involve the direct contact with various institutions and organizations that carry out vocational training and adult education in the Northern Region, particularly within the framework of integrated regional development programmes. Students have the opportunity to observe training practices, to analyse training contexts, to interview target-populations and training professionals and supervised following of the psychologists’ intervention.
