Summary: Recently, we evaluated the impact of OTM versus ITM formulas in the occurrence of foodborne pathogens and Enterobacteriaceae in poultry-farms and marketed meat, with focus on colistin-resistance and copper-tolerance (IJUP-Empresas-2019-17-SOJA PORTUGAL). We showed that most flocks were contaminated at P1 (2-3 days-old chicks) and P2 (pre-slaughter) stages, suggesting that some bacteria might be introduced from one-day-old chicken, persisting throughout bird's life and reaching derived meat. This large Enterobacteriaeceae collection previously obtained from OTM/ITM farms provide a unique opportunity to further study transmission/persistence dynamics in a farm-to-fork context. The MAIN OBJECTIVE is to elucidate the diversity and persistence of relevant Enterobacteriaceae with zoonotic potential within OTM/ITM farms studied as a starting point to identify and control poultry-flocks contamination sources and prevent their transfer to humans by poultry-meat. The methodological STRATEGY includes detailed molecular characterization in previous recovered Enterobacteriaceae (IJUP-2019) as well as in new-collected ones from revisiting problematic farms, in order to assess long-time persistence of Enterobacteriaceae with zoonotic potential or their reintroduction along with new flocks.
